Jim and Helen Rinehart bought the tiny jewelry department from Dr. Clay Walker's optometrist office on west Cherry Street. The Rineharts moved to the present location at 205 W. Cherry in 1954. After several expansions and additions, Rinehart Jewelry is still growing strong. Although Jim is only slightly active in the store today, in 1986 he turned the reign over to Sonny and Kathy Butler, Rinehart's son-in-law and daughter. Today, with the assistance of their daughter, Jennifer Zermeño, Sonny and Kathy enjoy fulfilling the dream Rinehart Jewelry was founded on.
This family owned jewelry store is located in a pleasant downtown setting in southwest Missouri. The friendly, educated staff is anxious to show you their excellent selections of fine jewelry and watches. Rinehart Jewelry has been a member of the American Gem Society since 1975 and the staff is educated in all aspects of the jewelry industry. And with shopping comes dining:
Cherry Street Grill – 127 E. Cherry Street - www.cherrystgrill.com
In 1885, Colonel Harry Mitchell built the Hotel Mitchell on a busy corner in Nevada, Missouri, just one block from the square. It was a center for meetings, gracious dining, and dancing. Over the decades, the hotel served many famous guests, including Frank James, John L. Sullivan, Richard Nixon, Arthur Godfrey, and Cole Younger. With the coming of the automobile, people relied less on trains and the town of Nevada slowed its rapid growth. The fifty luxurious rooms lost their luster as new owners were unable to justify the expense of upkeep. In 1998, after years of serving as housing for lower income clients, the main part of the building, including the lobby, was demolished and is now a parking lot. Only the mural on the side of our building commemorates the glory days.
What is now the Cherry Street Grill building was originally part of the hotel, sold off in 1907, and reacquired twenty years later. The current restaurant owners bought the building in 2002. It is now a lovely loft apartment with all-new plumbing and wiring, but with exposed brick walls and restored milled woodwork. You can see the change in the first floor, where they took out the drop ceiling, scrubbed plaster from the brick, and turned the old back door into our cooking fireplace. They are proud to give the historic building new life and remember the glory of the Mitchell Hotel in its heyday.
Now the tenderloin is so tender you can cut it with a fork, and they make pasta sauces and house salad dressing from scratch from Lee's secret recipes. But what makes Cherry Street Grill so unique in Nevada and to the surrounding areas is their wood fire used to grill the meats and seafood, and their delicious soups, bread, and atmosphere.
Del-Way – 1501 W. Austin Blvd. - 9am – 9pm
Home of the famous “De-Way Suzies” created by Evelyn Bain who owed and operated the restaurant for years. She passed on her unique double cheeseburger and "Delway Suzies" that are still famous. Del-Way is currently know for the best burger in town and owned and operated by local actor Brent Mendenhall who is know for his appearances as a George W. Bush impersonator who has appeared on the Jay Lenno Show, Jimmy Kimmel, and more.
